Anti-Valentines Day

Yeah, I know we're still a couple weeks away from V-Day, but the simple fact is that I already can't stand hearing about it anymore. I couldn't stand hearing about it when they first started putting the Valentine's Day candy out on the shelves at Target... Plain and simple fact is that any other time of year I'm perfectly content to be single, but right around this time of year, all the stupid romance is shoved so far down your throat its going to come out the other end without any kind of digestion involved. Subsequently, it also makes you want to punch every happy couple you see in the face with little or no explanation. True, maybe most of this anger and ranting is coming from the fact that this is the first time I'll be single on V-Day in almost three years but hey... At least I'm not alone, Germaine knows what I'm talking about...

Ok, maybe it's not entirely what I mean... Ok, fine, it's pretty much exactly the same... Don't judge me!

High School of the Dead

Despite my recent boredom with zombies, the alternative world seems determined to redeem zombies' track record with me... And I have to admit they're doing a really damn good job of it. First I find out about the blog Adrian's Undead Diary, which I've posted about before, and now their next move comes from one of the favorite mediums... Anime. My friend at work recently told me about High School of the Dead, available in manga and anime. Long story short, a zombie infection breaks out and a group of high school students must use whatever they can find laying around school to fight off the cannibalistic un-dead. Yeah, that's basically it, but don't get me wrong, this series is both ridiculous and awesome. Ridiculous in the sense that every female character that is aged 16 or over has a ridiculous amount of cleavage that leaves you drooling throughout the entire scene that they're fighting off zombies. Yes, I am that perverted, get over it. This whole series kicked off with the manga back in 2006, written by Daisuke Sato and illustrated by Shoji Sato. The anime didn't get started until 2010, but better late than never for this one. Now so far, only the first season is available, but the second season is rumored to be coming up pretty soon. Here's hoping it does because the first season, as animes are wont to do, leaves you off at a cliffhanger. At least it's not a horrible cliffhanger, like one that leaves you ripping your hair out because you're so desperate to know what happens next. It more kind of gives you the "O.K.... And?!" sense. Oh well, go and check it out anyway. And here's a little preview if you need any more convincing...

Foamy Fan Mail Has Returned!

For the first time since the reboot of Foamy, Mathers has decided to gives us a Foamy Fan Mail special... Unfortunately for our favorite furry ball of squirrely wrath, peoples' intelligence levels have not improved along with the look of the cartoon. One fan mail sends us back to the age old ranting of parents expecting other people to raise their children instead of actually taking care of their little hell spawn themselves. I've already commented on this particular issue before, and my viewpoints have not changed in the slightest. But Foamy says it in a much more entertaining way so I'll let him take center stage for now...

When Nerds Invade T.V.

At long last, nerds are getting their dues. For those of you who haven't already checked out The Big Bang Theory, I strongly urge you to at least give it a shot for a couple episodes. Granted, it took me a few episodes to get into it but now I can't get enough of it. Long story short, Sheldon and Leonard are living together in an apartment in L.A. and both are incredibly smart, like they're allowed to play around with atoms and very high-powered lasers smart. They live across the hall from "actress"-turned-waitress Penny. Sheldon (the tall one) is almost completely inept when it comes to human interaction and thinks of everything in the most scientific and logical terms you can imagine, leaving emotion out of the equation. Leonard is a little more in touch with his emotions but still has a pretty damn hard time fitting in with people below his I.Q. level. And Penny... well, she's the one that everyone who isn't a genius can relate to in this show. And, unfortunately, in the beginning she becomes the center of attention for the misguided nerd Leonard and his friends Wolowitz and Koothrappali. Wolowitz thinks he's God's gift to women and that no female in her right mind would be able to deny him (you can guess how well that works out for him) and Koothrappali finds himself unable to speak when in the presence of a female unless under the influence of alcohol (yet again, guess how well this works out). Anyway, the show's hilarious, you should check it out. I mean it won a best comedy series TCA in 2009 for a reason right?

This is How Metalheads Pay Tribute

Corey Taylor, lead singer for Slipknot and Stone Sour, seriously just made me bawl like a baby. And anyone who knows me knows I'm not the easiest person to get to cry... But Corey literally just broke my heart for being such a sweetheart. A I've mentioned in one of my firsts posts on here, the bassist for Slipknot, Paul Gray, passed away about a year ago from heart failure. Now I was already about to cry when I read a few days after finding out that Gray's wife had just announced that she was pregnant with her and Paul's first child. That already half ripped out my heart, but watching NY Ink today definitely finished the job, which is by no means a bad thing. This only helps to show that metalheads aren't the soulless assholes that people tend to think we are.

Anyway... Corey Taylor goes into Ami's new tattoo shop up in New York to get a tattoo of Paul put in his calf. The second I saw the preview for this episode I immediately thought, "Oh crap, he's going to make me cry." Corey's idea (look in the corner) was to have Paul in his mask with his number behind him as the tattoo. Well, they set to work and Corey starts talking about his relationship with Paul and tears starts welling up in his eyes, before long all he can say is "I miss him so much" and burying his face in the pillow they gave him. I don't know how much more touching you can get than that. We're talking about this guy's best friend in the world and he got a beautiful piece of permanent artwork of his friend's face on his body. Corey, you're awesome!

The Ultimate Nerd Series Prequel is Coming!

At long last those of us who are total slaves to the Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkein can be satisfied... hopefully. One of the parts that excited me about seeing The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo wasn't actually a part of the movie, but some of the trailers. The trailer for The Hobbit was among them. I totally freaked needless to say, considering my major nerd-gasm over anything LOTR as I mentioned in an earlier post. Now I am here to share the nerd happiness with all of you. Let your inner nerd rejoice!

Begley is Back!!!!

Title is self-explanatory, just watch the damn thing!

P.S. Germaine's line "Bitch, make you're own damn sandwich! I'm not some housewife-sandwich-making ho!" is the most amazing thing I've ever heard...

Underworld: Awakening Soundtrack Preview

Now I will be the first to admit that I'm not exactly crazy about the fact that yet another Underworld movie is being made. The first one wasn't anything fantastic, but yet it's still entertaining enough to kill a couple hours in the day. Not to mention it has vampires that act like real vampires in it... But that rants been done to death at this point. Yet while I'm not thrilled with the idea of the movie, I listened to a preview of the soundtrack last night, and I must say... It sounds pretty badass. I already knew that Evanescence was going to get a slice of the soundtrack to themselves thanks to their latest album (the song "Made of Stone" will be featured) but I didn't know who else was getting in on it. The soundtrack for the first movie is great, I especially like Puscifer's contribution...

For those of you who are still interested, here's the video for the soundtrack preview. Enjoy!

Epic AMV for DJ Spoke

I firmly believe that this is one AMV that no electronica/trance fan who also loves anime can go without. I've been obsessed with it ever since my friend Jennah first showed it to me. The person who made this thing is seriously awesome! Enjoy!

Two Updates

So, my little gothlings, I've accomplished two different things within the past week or so. If you've already read my previous post about the newly remade Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, you know that I've been torn on how much I actually liked it. But now I have a definitive answer to that question! Drum roll please...

I LIKED IT! Yes, I actually enjoyed the remake of a movie that I thought was the most amazing thing on the face of the planet. And one that I've been compared to the main character of, much to my delight. Nonetheless, David Fincher has thoroughly impressed me with his new rendition. Although, I do have to point out a couple of the flaws that I noticed in the film. For one, while the opening credit sequence is the most badass thing ever, it doesn't transition very well into the opening scene for the film. All this freaky action with wires and a viscous liquid is going on then all of a sudden your plopped down in front of Daniel Craig walking down a set of stairs... Rather anticlimactic... Number two, I think it's a relatively difficult film to follow for people who don't know the basic story line. The friend who I was watching it with seemed to get confused fairly often. Either that or he's just really impatient and knew that I knew the plot and wanted to figure it out before everything happened.

And for the second update... I've finally managed to play all the way through Dante's Inferno and finished it a couple days ago. Overall I enjoyed it, but it was definitely lacking something. It wasn't disjointed or anything like that, in fact for an environment that was supposed to be pretty segregated into various areas, it worked pretty well. I think Dante was a little on the shallow side as a character, as was his woman Beatrice. In fact everyone kind of was, minus the Devil but... Hey, he's the Devil, how much more do you want or need to know about him? Other than that though, still an awesome game... And at times kind of disturbing...
