The Geek's Movie of the Summer

Within the span of a week I have already seen The Avengers twice. Yup, twice! It is that good of a movie. Between the amazing chemistry that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans seem to have as Iron Man and Captain America and just all of the hilarious moments that the Hulk brings to the screen, among many other things, there is no way this movie has gone wrong. It's an amazing mash-up of superheroes that would have failed if they had tried to do it any other way. And that's a huge part of this movie, the Hulk doesn't suck. He's actually a really well-done character, unlike the total mess he's been reported being in the other two Hulk movies. And c'mon, when you have Captain America giving orders for a battle plan to everyone and he suddenly looks at the Hulk and says "Smash!" and you just see this huge grin on the Hulk's face before he starts going apeshit, it's just priceless. Not to mention when the Hulk gets a hold of Loki and throws him around like Bam Bam would with anyone unfortunate enough to hold his hand in the Flinstones. Yeah, it's epic, go see it... NOW!

Lindsey Stirling

For fans of "America's Got Talent" you'll probably know Ms. Stirling from her awesome performances. For those of you who don't like reality T.V. (myself included) if you haven't already checked out this amazing musician, you need to... Like now. She plays the violin, dances, sings, and she's totally adorable. You can't get a much better combination than that. And she even writes all of her own songs! Now, how does this pertain to A&U (alternative and underground)? She uses distinctly techno and dubstep beats in most of her songs, and they work really, really well. I mean, you may hate dubstep, I know a few people who do, but you cannot hate her dubstep music video... Just watch and you'll see...

See?! She's totally awesome! Unfortunately, she doesn't have a CD out yet, but there's good news for people who have an iPod. Her music is available on iTunes right now and for the rest of us we have youtube and there's always her Facebook account. Happy listening everyone!

P.S. You should check this one out too, it's totally wicked and all her videos are shot by friends! This is a whole group of ridiculously talented people here!

Band Spotlight: Midnight Syndicate

This is one band that changed the way I looked at instrumentals. When I was a teen, my then boyfriend gave me a CD from a band I'd never heard of called Midnight Syndicate. Well, the CD was titled Vampyre and I very well couldn't pass up that kind of a CD now could I? The first time I listened to it was a little later when I was taking a road trip down to North Carolina. I popped that thing in and oh man, I zoned out completely. At one point I thought I was on track 4 when in fact I was on track 7. These guys are nothing short of amazing, their music is straight out of old school horror films. Take Vampyre for example, as you're listening to it, it is completely easy to imagine the types of scenes the music would be in, Bella Lugosi and everything included! Not to mention the fact that they use a harpsichord as one of their instruments (I totally get a boner every time someone plays a harpsichord). By the way, this is a harpsichord...

Well Midnight Syndicate is actually American based. Weird considering all that foreign bands I've been featuring lately. So far they have thirteen albums out. Yes, you heard me correct, thirteen! Their most recent one is "Carnivale Arcane" which I'm going to have to get my hands on in the near future. If you haven't checked these guys out already, you should do it soon, and really soon. Until then there's always their official site that you can check out and here's a little tidbit from Vampyre for you to enjoy...
