Anime Spotlight: Trinity Blood
Yes, my little gothlings, it's once again time that I brought an anime into the spotlight. I haven't done one of these in a while, and my roommate just put one in so I figured it was about time. This time it's Trinity Blood that gets the glory. This anime is a bit older but I can never, ever get tired of it. It combines vampires with a more modern, kick-ass version of the Vatican, how can you beat that? In essence, you can't. The plot is set 900 years after an apocalyptic war that Humans were responsible for. During this war, Vampires (or Methuselahs) started to appear and became the biggest threat to humanity. The story follows one of the priests from the Vatican named Abel Nightroad (you'll notice a lot of Biblical references in this) who is also a Crusnik, or a Vampire who feeds on the blood of other Vampires. Interested yet? You have a Vampire who kills and feeds on Vampires working directly for the Vatican. And when he's not in Crusnik form, he's very charmingly hopeless. Abel's almost constantly broke and getting himself into some kind of troubling situation. As the series progresses, you learn a lot about his past, which winds up being a main plot point throughout the later part of the anime. Trinity Blood is also available as a manga but I haven't managed to read it yet to compare and contrast the plot or characters much. A while ago I wanted to cosplay as Esther Blanchett, a nun with a major hatred of Vampires who joins the Vatican's AX Team, which Abel is also part of. The AX is essentially priests and nuns who are trained in battle or have certain abilities that make them useful during a fight. All in all, the anime is pretty action packed for the limited number of episodes it has. But it manages to pack in a nice story in only 24 episodes so how can you complain about that? Definitely give this show a try, it's one of my favorites!
